Guest Picks: Beach House Chic

Growing up in the Northeast, I Have come to love the design Fashions of This New England coastal Cities from Nantucket to the Hamptons.

However, the “beach house” look can quickly go from white linen and used wood grains into a excessively kitschy nautical theme. Here, I have pulled together pieces for every room in the house which state “beach house chic” without going overboard. — Kate from DomestiKated Life

Etsy

Vintage Nautical Map – $20
Nautical maps have beautiful colors and interest, almost like an abstract painting, and also are a wonderful way to add some local flavor to the walls. They’re also often an inexpensive way to cover a huge wall.

Wisteria

Woven Rattan Club Chair – $799
Somehow white upholstery always says “beachy,” despite it is unnatural place beside sandy feet and wet bathing suits. But white slipcovers are great compromise for your high-use pieces and appear extra sharp next to blond rattan.

Sundance Catalog

Megastripe Blanket – $95
This cotton throw is an ideal accessory to toss over the side of one of the armchairs and could be great to cuddle up in using a beach read.

Woven Seagrass Pendant – $89
These pendants are reminiscent of lobster traps using their rattan basket weave colors. A key to the beachfront vibe is to keep things light and airy and those will not weigh down the room.

Millhouse Big Table – $2,695
Beach houses are a mecca for big family events and hosting buddies — an over-scaled and rustic dining table is good for gathering everyone for supper.

Ballard Designs

Herringbone Sisal Rug – $299
Sisal rugs are super durable and perfect for the high traffic (and sandy!) Spaces in beach house. This variant from Ballard Design includes a touch of sophistication with the herringbone design.

Ballard Designs

Deux Ruban Linen Panel – $79
The basic stripes on those crisp classic curtain panels provide them just a sign of a preppy Nantucket vibe.

Ballard Designs

Breton Rope Rod & Finial Set – $45
For just a touch of nautical masculinity, I like the notion of employing these rope finials to compliment the sharp classic curtain panels.

CB2

Ernest White Bar Cart – $149
Every beach house demands a bar cart; this CB2 rolling bar dining table is multifunctional and can be moved from the inside to outside and room to room depending on where guests are gathering.

Amazon

Book – $53
One of my favorite things about renting a beach home is all of those books that get left behind from years of visitors. This is a good coffee table book for your beach house living area; it will inspire a little glamour on your vacation and spruce up your bookshelf.

Jonathan Adler

Whale Bookends – $150
Jonathan Adler’s whimsical whale bookends are a fun way to prop up beach reads on a mantle or bookshelf.

Pottery Barn

Nautical Cleat Hook – $12
Set the tone for your home with boating-inspired cleat hooks on your entryway walls. Or put a few by the rear door for visitors to hang their beach towels on.
These little sheets have just a touch of the nautical theme to them and therefore are super playful — they’d be great for twin beds in a guest room or kids room.

Anthropologie

Woodland Slumber Canopy Bed, Beige – $2,998
To get a master suite or more formal guest bedroom, I always really like the notion of employing this Anthropologie mattress. The four poster style and powerful geometric lines remind me of a boat’s sleeping quarters.

Garnet Hill

Printed Canvas Storage Bins – $24
Garnet Hill has cute printed canvas storage containers with minimal minnow patterns. You could use these all around the home to assemble beach towels, sand toys, flip flops — the possibilities are endless!

Frette

Frette White Hotel Linens – $325
Borrow this notion from luxury resorts: Stock your beach home with nice crisp white linens. The easy navy edge on those is really classic.

Jonathan Adler Needlepoint Anchor Pillow – $98
For just a pop of interest on the white linens, add a daring blue pillow. I am a huge fan of the Jonathan Adler embroidered pillow for it’s texture and anchor theme.

Blue Anchors Wallpaper – $12.99
If you are likely to embrace the nautical theme in almost any room, I say go on the top in the restroom. It’s a small space which you’re able to make bold decisions in — like this gloomy anchor printed wallpaper.

Etsy

Vintage Nautical Knot Print – $3
This classic nautical knot print will look great framed anywhere — at a beach house or not. It’s picture and has clean, simple lines and colors.

Hable Construction

Miami Big Beads Indoor/Outdoor Pillows – $185
And don’t forget about creating the outdoors comfortable and stylish too! Indoor/outdoor pillows really are a wonderful way to add a soft touch to some of the in-between spaces like three-season porches. I love the bright ocean blue color of the Hable and Construction variation.
